| Personal History | Rhu lost his parents during the occupation of Betazoid by the Dominion. Both of his parents had been diplomats, raising their son to believe in peaceful negotiation as a means toward settling differences. As a young member of the resistance, those teachings sounded hollow in the wake of the invaders imprisoning and studying of the Betazoid telepaths. In the wake of occupation, Rhu was taken in by his aunt and placed into state mandated counseling as well as signing up for the Betazoid Defense Forces as a Cadet. That Cadet training prepared him for early entry into Star Fleet and he eventually graduated from the Academy as a Security/Tactical specialist. After initial training at Star Base 324, he was ordered aboard the USS Warchief where he was promptly appointed to fill in as Assistant Operations officer. That post eventually became permanent and he served under Captain Ian Lindsey for four years before being assigned to a Star Fleet Intelligence team, where his position with the BDF Reserve came in handy as he was assigned to liaison with Betazoid officials in a program to study WHY the Dominion had chosen to invade Betazoid and, more importantly, to make sure something like that could never happen again. After serving with Intel, he was transferred as executive officer aboard the USS Constellation, serving in the Beta Quadrant and beyond aboard the explorer. Four years later he was asked to return to Betazoid space as commander of the BDF’s patrol wing, commanding over two hundred craft from Cutters to Fighters at the Reserve Rank of Strategeos. A month ago he was informed that he was being released from his TDY and being assigned as Commanding Officer of the USS Valiant. Rhu see’s himself as uncomplicated, but he’ll admit he’s had an uphill struggle since the death of his parents. He’s dealt with anger issues most of his career and his transfer to Operations aboard the Warchief was the first instance of a commander taking an interest in his career. Captain (now Admiral) Lindsey, didn’t care about Rhu’s preferences which was a turning point for the half-betazoid. He became married to Amanda Caine shortly before he transferred to Fleet Intelligence and were finally able to serve together when he went aboard the Constellation as Executive Officer three years later. In 2396 the Constellation was lost in a confrontation with Benzar smugglers. Amanda and their one year old daughter, Alicia, were lost in the battle. Rhu was among the survivors, but he wouldn’t call it that. In his words, the best part of him died that day. After the loss, he was recalled to Betazoid to help organize and operate the Betazoid’s home defense ships. Being near his aunt again helped and he’s recovered himself to a degree. |
