Mission:
Prelude to War
Location: USS Valiant. Enginnering.
Timeline: Evening of Get the Party Started.
Biv sourly looked over Valiant’s engineering bay and bit at his inner cheek. The bay was mostly deserted, save for a single rating on fire watch who BIV had come to release. The rating had waited for Biv to give Engineering the once-over, then scurried when the CPO waived him off.
Engineering was going to be a cluster with Jov getting married and Rianna flitting off. Scowling at nothing in particular, the engineer padded around checking the power plant and umbilical readouts from where Valiant was plugged into Empok Nor.
Then he got himself a triple caf and sat down at the drafting table and began running through the upcoming yard-visit. Valiant was getting a few new bells and whistles. What concerned him was the automated systems and holographic projectors that would allow holograms to function throughout the ship.
Biv was of the opinion that nothing good could come of having holograms doing more spacer work. Idly he began making notes of how to use the transporter system to put a rogue hologram into a limbo like status by tying in some of the programing from the miniature holodeck that was going to be added.
That sent him down a different rabbit hole and he was startled when a notice pinged and he looked up. Two hours had went past. His caff would have been cold if it wasn’t for the self heating cup and he was due to take a turn around the ship as acting Chief of the Boat and in turn, with them running off shore pore, performing as Deck Officer for Valiant.
Standing up, he cleared his work area and pushed the chair back into the console, then stretched and picked up his cup. Over the next hour he wandered Valiants four priory decks. He made a circuit of their landing bay before trailing into the Nook where he took out the sebiche he’d made before coming on shift and found a corner. The automatic systems would tell him if anyone cycled one of Valiant’s hatches and it was nice to have the place to himself.
Looking around slightly, he slumped Ito a booth getting comfortable and brought up his program. Biv had become hooked on tele nova and soap opera’s while at Academy and it was one of guilty pleasures he allowed himself. Once his tour as Deck Officer was over, he could explore more of the station and he had plans to get together with a few other engineers.
But for now, he had time to himself and he planned to enjoy it.
