Mission:
New Beginnings
Location: VOQ - Obsidian Fleet HQ
Timeline: -10 NB
Curtis sat in his VOQ (visiting officers quarters) room, having showered after catching a pick-up basketball game in the gymnasium on Deck 44. That his VOQ was on deck 700 and Obsidian Station had a total of 2500 decks boggled his mind. He’d been on stations before, but Stardock Class stations were something else.
He took a beer from the cooler and settled into the sitting room’s sofa, propping his feet up on the table. Senior Officer quarters were considerably more well appointed than were the Junior Officer quarters he’d been used to not so long ago. There were actually two rooms plus a head.
That was something he wasn’t going to have aboard the Valiant. That thought drew his attention and he picked up the flimsy’s he had printed. He’d been hunting for schematics for the Valiant for nearly two days to compare to the generic ones there were for the standard Defiant class and he’d finally run down an engineer who had worked on the ships refit.
There were only subtle differences, but those were enough that it would make a difference to engineering and handling the ship. Taking the beer, a Tellarite pale ale, Curtis considered the flimsy then tossed it aside and drank deeply from the bottle. He could go over those with O'Donnaghue when they met tomorrow.
Tonight he had a date with an admin from Bu’Pers and he needed to get ready for that about now. He’d been surprised when she’d said yes. On OFHQ, Commander’s were a dime a dozen. Hell, there were enough admirals to put at least a couple of teams on the court and their hangers on would fill a lot of seats.
But, Rachel had said yes so he had a date and, checking the chrono, he saw he had about half an hour. Time to get moving. He drained the bottle and dropped it in the recycler, then dressed and headed for the door.
Fretting over the Valiant could wait until tomorrow.
