1,399 words; about a 7 minute read

Mission: The Foragers
Location: Tavi's Quarters

Amy needed to get herself more involved with the crew of the Valiant. After being on her own for a little while, Amy felt that it was time to get to know her fellow crew members. She'd spoken to Rhu, Katya, one on one but the rest she only met them via the group gathering at Never Winters. Amy scrolled through the manifest, her search pausing on one, a returning member of the crew. The chief of Security, Lieutenant Kolan.

Rising up from the small chair she had in her quarters, Amy left and headed to Kolan's quarters and pressed the chime.

Tavana just turned the corner when she noticed the Intel Chief standing at her door. Her senses told her that this was not a formal visit. "Hi, are you sure you want to go in there?" Tavana said smiling as she approached Amy. "I haven't been in there for six months. I have no idea what could be in there..." she said with a toothy grin. "Between Intel and Security, I guess we should be able to face it, yes?" Tavana said as she opened her door.

So, it was more or less as she left it. It was in a hurry. And it was a little worse than she remembered. Her clothes were strewn on the couch and bed, cupboards left open and a half packed bag. "Oh... that is where that is..." she said with a wrinkled nose. "I accused quite a few people of losing my bag...." she grimaced. "Please come in, and make yourself at home," she said spreading her arm. "Anywhere.."

Amy chuckled, stepping inside. "Thank you. You've been gone for six months?" she did wrinkle up her nose at the smell that was in the air. "It looks like you were in a great hurry to leave. Where did you end up going?" finding an empty spot to take a seat on. "I could help get your quarters straightened up." making an offer to help out.

Tavana raised her eyebrows. "You may get hurt or lost!" she laughed as she looked around. "There are quite alot I need to get rid of. And this must have been delivered after I left," she pointed at two containers as she started to gather the clothes she left behind and closed the cupboard doors.

"I was on a mission to support Valvidae to remain in the Federation, but the Ambassador was murdered here on the Valiant and they asked me to stay on to continue what he had started. It was a quick decision and I had ike three minutes to pack for 6 months," she explained as she lifted a short. "Oh, no - this coffee is six months old. That is what is smelling so bad," she siad pulling her face as she through it in the recycling unit. "They were hammered with pirate attacks, so my role changed from diplomat to tactician," she explained. "And you, how did you end up here?"

"Commander Tyree he saw me looking all forlorn holding a sign that said 'please adopt me'. He took compassion upon me and brought me to the Valiant. I was all soaking wet and shivering looking rather pitiful. " She was half joking on that one. Amy remembering how she came aboard the Vailant.

Tavana chuckled at the image she saw in her mind's eye."I am sorry," she said, "it is hard to reconcile the pic in my mind with what I see now. Unless there is more to the story?" she said as she continued to clean.

"Ah..." she said with a grin, holding a find. "Wine?" she asked revealing a bottle of red wine.

"Wine sounds good. As for what happened I was undercover in a penal colony for six months. I did the disappearing act, making it look like I had died due to a wild animal attack then hiked cross country to my target and it was during a storm, climbed up a rock which was slick and slimy with seagull droppings and bug crud. Got some information that was needed and was whisked away onto the Valiant. So that description of what I said before pretty apt." Amy giving a chuckle.

"That is funny... now, I am sure it wasn't then," she chuckled as she found two glasses and poured the wine, handing Amy one. "This will help with handling my quarters better, it won't clean it up, but it won't bug us so much." she said as she continued to bring some order to her quarters. . "Undercover work is defintely not for everyone. I have some experience, but our assignments were shorter, a week to ten days at the most. I understood from the Captain that we will have some undercover missions on this ship," she asked with a question in her voice as she sat down. "I will go through the containers later," she said more to herself than to Amy.

"Yup from what he said this is true."Amy accepting the wine, then took a drink of it. "You know your place doesn't smell bad, really though yes it does smell a little bit stale. But that happens when things are sitting for awhile. Clothing, bedding etc. And your quarters do not smell like that rock did, I had to get rid of the clothing I was in. Anyay, enough of a smelly subject." Amy laughed. "So you had short term undercover work. What did you do on your asssignments?"

Tavi sank into the couch and took a long gulp of her wine, refliing the glass. "We were deep into the Beta Quandrant, exploring and making new friends. That was the official version. Out actual mission was a joint op with the Federation too seek and destroy any Kzinthi bases we found. we had intel at the time that after the war with them they colluded with a Romulan faction to build bases in the Beta Quadrant for a next invasion of the Aplha Quadrant. So we went to look for intelligence and contacts. So we adapted and went undercover to everything from trade posts, scrap yards or planets. It usually took about 3 days to a week."

"Not bad, not bad at all. "Amy moving to take a seat on the sofa, pulling up one leg bendingi it at the knee. She leaned back, stretching her neck just a little bit. "That also sounds like it was getting a bit intense there."

"You don't want to know," Tavi said her face falling a bit as she looked into space, as if trying to see something better than what the memories want to bring to the surface. "It was pretty bad at times." she said and the forced a smile, and finished her wine and got up to get whatever other alcohol she had. She found a bottle of Irish whiskey and nearly opened it, but shoved it back into the cupboard. It was her father's favorite and she was not ready to deal with that. She pulled out a bottle a Bolion fried gave her. She srugged and opened it. "I am not sure what this is , but it smells sweet... She poured some in her wine glass and placed the bottle on the coffee table. "Help yourself..." After a sip her eyes widened. "Hu'tecH, this has a bite! Never expected that...! So how were you undercover ops? Hopefully not as horrifying as mine," she tried to joke.

"Well it varied, there were good times and there were bad. I've been in a shuttle which was hit by space debris, myself and my team mamber landed upon a planet and it was just her and myself, no other living being. We survived we were able to get off the planet but she didn't like me." Amy taking a sip of the drink, then wrinkled her nose. "Prune juice with some sort of hot spice. Okay that is interesting. Spicy warriors drink." she took a good drink of the wine, then gave out a belch, "Whoops that snuck out." A look around at Tavi's room, then a beep she heard upon her PADD. She pulled it out and glanced at the message. "Holy smoke! I've got to get going! I've got someone to meet!" slugging back the rest of the wine, Amy set down the glass and dashed out of Tavi's quarters. "Sorry!"
