Mission: On the Trail
Location: Personnel Quarters, USS Valiant
Timeline: Day one, On the Trail.

Pacing through the familiar corridors of USS Valiant, Rhu greeted various crew members, stopping to chat and get caught up as seemed appropriate. He also was getting his eyes on his ship. When Valiant hopped away to the Yard at Deep Space Five, he stopped into the canteen picking up a brace of betazoid takarian cream doughnut and two cups of coffee from the service, then walked to Jayden’s quarters. Grinning and with hands full, he kicked by way of knocking at the door.

Jayden hadn't really expected anyone. He was still in his uniform when he had a kick at his door. He opened the door to his quarters and was surprised to see the captain. "Hello, captain, please come in." He stepped aside to let him enter. "I was just settling down after a shift. Have a seat..." He looked around his quarters. "Wherever you like." He hadn't really prepared for visitors. Usually people would meet him at his office not at his quarters.

As the door slid open, Rhu moved into the door frame and smiled at his second officer and Valiant's Counselor. "Hello Jayden," he said as he glanced about, he offered Jayden a cup and angled a doughnut toward him. "Thought you might enjoy a coffee and fresh pastry. We're going to miss these aboard the Adelaide, though it's probably not so bad for my waistline," he joked.

Jayden now noticed the doughnut and the coffee. He was staring at it for a few seconds and then took the cup and the doughnut. "Oh yeah...thank you." Jayden said and looked at the coffee. "Thank you, sir." He gave a smile but didn't comment further on his joke. "I do like pastries."He just said as he took a seat on his bed. Despite not being ready for visitors, his room did look organized. Everything seem to have a place where he could find it. Everything was purposely neat and placed.

Looking over his counselor and feeling a flustered buzz from him, Rhu decided he'd flustered the man and realized again how little he knew them and they him. Jayden seemed always in the background and somewhat unsure of himself. Rhu suspected that was more because he might not be used to small ship, intelligence agency mind sets yet.

"We're short on time, as seems normal for us so I'll cut to the chase. We've added some new personnel as you've been notified. A chief medical officer who seems to have some strange habits. And a Chief Engineer that might not get small ship dynamics. Keep an eye on them for me please. Drill down a bit on Dr. Zuub since we'll be spending quite a bit of time together over the next month. I forsee us traveling quite a bit aboard Adelaide as we track down the Ashen Hand and whoever is backing them."

Shoving the doughnut in his mouth, he shifted his coffee cup to the other hand and reached into his pocket and laid a strip of pips on the counter. Grinning around the doughnut, he reversed the cup and took the doughnut from between his teeth. "And, congratulations Lieutenant Commander. Your promotion came through."

Jayden blinked as he looked at the pips on the counter. He wasn't expecting a promotion. At least not so soon. "Oh..." He finally let out. "I didn't even know I was up for promotion. Thank you, I feel honored." He looked to the doughnut. "And I will of course look after the new crew." He gave a warm polite smile.

"It's well deserved," Rhu told his counselor after polishing off the doughnut. "You're a quiet, but very important part of what keeps Valiant running. WIth the bump in rank there always comes more work though. We'll have to make sure and keep you busy." Rhu smiled and sipped at his coffee once more, washing the last of the sweet pastry down.

"That being said," Rhu said, "I should get back to things. Wrap up on Valiant and get over to the Adelaide, working your NOC a little through the station. Nothing strenuous, but a little trade craft is worth practicing." Waving, he stepped through the hatch and moved on to the next of a hundred things on his to do list.
