Mission:
New Beginnings
Location: Stateroom 202
Timeline: MD001 1830 hrs
Curtis was not impressed.
He’d known about the staterooms aboard Defiant classes, but still. The reality as he walked into his assigned quarters was that it was small and it would likely test most of the crew. Curtis had worked on small ships for most of his career and cramped quarters weren’t new to him.
But still.
Sighing, he looked at the bunk options and then chucked his shoulder bag up onto the top bunk and looked around the space trying to fit his mind into it.
Daynah had spent much of her time on the Valiant getting mission ready. There was a lot to do to the Defiant Class to make it an exploratory vessel. The Science Lab alone needed a weeks worth of upgrades. Of course they did not have a week so Daynah pushed herself to the limit. However, fatigue was wearing in and it was at this point that she realized that she never checked in with the quartermaster to get assigned quarters.
She was quite embarrassed when she was reminded by the Quartermaster that everyone on the Valiant would be sharing quarters. Well everyone except the CO. Daynah was assigned to share with the XO. She sighed deeply and sent notification to have her belongings transported into the quarters.
Daynah walked into the quarters without really paying attention she was that tired. She simply tossed her duffle on the floor and sat on the lower bunk. She unzipped her uniform jacket, and the turtleneck underneath showed off her female form. When she opened her eyes she saw the two legs standing there. "Hi I am Daynah Ral and I am beat. I guess we are living together."
"Hello Daynah Ral," Curtis smiled. "I'm Curtis Thibideaux. It does look that way and I, magnanimously, have ceded the bottom bunk to you based on my experience with climbing into the top bunks. Curtis moved to one of the desk terminals, kicking off his boots as he sat on the desk surface and put his feet onto the chair. "
"You're tired and I was going to run general maintenance in the medical bay, so you can get settled and such," staring then act his boots, he sighed. "I had the damn things made on Way Far. You'd think they'd be a bit more comfortable."
"It's not the boots it's the feet that are uncomfortable..." She said as she sat up. "...I want to thank you for being so gentlemanly and ceding the bottom bunk. In truth I am a little afraid of heights, even small one's like that. Ral tells me that Eliza had the fear, so now I have the fear. Tell me Curtis Thibideaux, what do you do around these parts? I am the Science Officer." Daynah smiled at the man as she began to do yoga type stretches in bed. This accentuated her curves while relaxing her.
"What do I do? Well a little of this and a little of that, Daynah. Mostly I'm the Valiant's Executive Officer and my Captain's keeper," he said, a smile playing over his lips. Fear of heights isn't all that uncommon. Now fear of the dark would be more troublesome. I suppose the next question should be Do you snore?" he said, grinning.
At the words Executive Officer Daynah panicked, and leaped to her feet. "Oh my... I am so sorry so. I did not know, dang it I should have looked at the manifest. Sir my deepest apologies." She stood at attention it did not help that he was rather attractive. How had she not realized. "...And no sir I do not snore sir." She haphazardly tried to put her hair back up to make it regulation.
Curtis held his hands up in a staying motion, "As you were Daynah. This is your...our home and there is no saluting between bunkmates in their home. No apologies needed either. It could get incredible awkward if one of us were showering, for instance." He grinned and lowered his hands, "Well I don't think I snore, so that covers that. The captains going to let me run a 12 on 12 off rotation, so there will be a decent chance at privacy over the shifts too. Any questions for me?"
She didn't just smile she burst out laughing and collapsed back on the bed. "No sir no questions. But I do have two words of warning. I am not sure if you have ever lived with a Trill. However, we very often talk to ourselves. It is actually me talking to Ral or vice versa. The other thing... um..." Her voice trailed off as she was not sure how to put it. "...My people like to sleep in the nude. So I hope that is okay." She smirked slightly at the comment about nudity. While it was true, she had learned how to adapt while living on a Starship.
Curtis hasn't heard of that Trill custom before, but "To each their own, Daynah." He said, shaking his head, "As I said, it's our home. I'll just consider it a walking, talking art display." Then he grinned, "The only warning I can give you is that I like spicy food." Looking down at his feet, he stood and walked to his bag, pulled out clean socks and quickly changed them, then pulled on his boots. "Right then, I'd best be off. You can get settled and we can get to know each other over the days ahead. If you sleep, sleep well Daynah."
"You know I am known to make the spiciest hasparat this side of Bajor. Perhaps soon I will cook it for you. However right now there is sleep to be had and duty to be performed. Thank you Curtis you have a great shift." Daynah said as she unzipped her uniform jacket and tossed on the bed. The teal colored turtleneck was next. She paid no attention as the door slid shut.
