Mission:
The Foragers
Location: Empok Nor, Visiting Officers Quarters
Timeline: Two days after Get the Party Started
Rhu tapped a control on the dining table they were seated around and the image of a Markalian appeared and he said, “That’s Deco Nivik. A Fence who has his hands well and truly in many dirty pies. He’s a permanent fixture aboard the trader Gilnza out of Cardassia. It’s due here in about six days, if their manifest can be believed. Deco was named by our pirates as a go between. So, we need to ask him what’s up.”
“First off, we can’t take Valiant or any transport linked with the Federation,” Rhu stated and took another pull from his cup. “We don’t want to spook whoever is sending those pirates out before we can run them to ground. If they get an idea we’re looking, it might take forever to find them.” Rhu let them digest that bit before he continued.
“Secondly, we need to ask Deco who that contact is. Where we can find him and suitably motivate him not to sell us out. Or make sure he thinks someone else is asking. Or something to that effect.”
Putting his cup down he fixed his eyes on Dayna, and said, “Number one, Deco is your nut to crack. Develop a plan to get the intel from him. I don’t care how as long as it doesn’t end up with you and your team in a really deep jail or do anything that can be traced back to Valiant or Federation Intel.” Nodding toward the ships counselor he said, “I think Jaedon will be invaluable to you in that. Toward that end, I have a name on the station. One Brexis. They’re a merchant Captain as well and is familiar with Nivik. Hopefully, as distasteful as it may be to you, you can coerce the information from him. There are operational funds that go along with this mission, just drive a hard bargain.”
Tipping a thumb toward Amy, then switching to his index finger and pointing at Valiant’s Helmsman, he said, “Ms. Gordon and I will be obtaining a starship someplace. Our contacts with Federation Intelligence said they have something in mind there. I’m expecting a brief within the next twenty four hours.
Looking about, he said, “Officially we’re all on leave as Valiant goes into the yard for a tuck and lift. That’s expected to take a month. Once we have these two legs of the mission under us, we can decide who,” Rhu gave a brief glance toward his XO, “and where we go from there. We’re calling this Operation Horoscope."
Glancing about, Rhu settled back into his chair and said, "Be thinking about how we're going to go about this and cover identities you may want to use. Exec, if you and Jayden don't plan on using cover identities, figure out how to obscure your fingerprints."
Glancing toward Katya he said, "Ops. I'll give you the choice of which way you want to ride this tide. Either group could use a hand getting things done."
Then he looked at the rest, "As far as that goes, we can mix everything up too. None of this is set in stone until we finish this meeting.
Katya wasn't so sure she'd be good at getting information out of someone. But she did know ships. "I can help with the ship. I know how to alter IFF codes and comm signals if it becomes necessary. Plus I'm pretty handy with a spanner."
Daynah sat and took notes as the Captain spoke. She was not pleased with her assignment. It was covert, the order to make sure that there was no connection to the Federation. It made no sense, and she hated it. However, she would follow the orders to the letter. At the moment she began to record some ideas of a plan.
"Right then, we'll break this down and get things underway," Rhu stated, bringing up more detailed information for the teams and overall operational plan.
