» Unrest in Antica. StarFleet issues navigational warning for Sector 500.

Posted on Mon Dec 23rd, 2024 @ 4:44pm by Commander Rhupert Tyree in General News

By Tricia Takenawa, Independent News Service.

Two days ago, Starfleet Command through the Federation Bureau of State issued a travel warning for Sector 500, specially the transit lanes around Antica space as unrest on the Federation member world grows.

In the past month, a separatist movement calling itself the Ashen Hand has taken responsibility for a number of fire bombing incidents on Antican worlds and today, a rash of fire bombings around the UFP offices on Selay. The Selay and Anticans have a long history of warfare between the species, only finding peace twenty five years ago when both were admitted to Federation membership.

While tense and often at odds on the floor of the Senate, the Anticans and Selay have avoided open conflict apparently until now. Officials on both sides are condemning the action, with the Selay insisting that the Antican government take steps to deal with the Ashen Hand.

Little is known about the Ashen hand, but speculation is that they are a loosely organized group of hard line dissidents who are acting out. This recent move to put agents on the Selay home world is new and concerning, according to Selay constabulary and sources within the Selay government are taking steps to deal with the threat.

Mass prisoner escape on Federation Penal Colony, Vinderous III.
By Amalon Fong, Federation News Service

Federation Officials today issued a BOLO (Be On the Look Out) for nearly five hundred prisoners assigned to the Penal Colony, Vinderous III in the Fure System. In what is listed as the largest mass escape known, the Federation Bureau of Rehabilitation and Restitution issued the laundry list of criminals who, after findings published by the bureau’s Inspector General office, were discovered not where they were supposed to be.

When contacted, the BR&R declined comment.

When asked during the daily briefing in Paris, Nigel Ash, one of President’s Press Secretaries stated, “President Turgenev is of course very concerned with this event. He has ordered an accounting of all Colonies and Centers under BR&R’s umbrella wards and ordered Inspector General Lauti to investigate.”

In the mean time, Secretary Ash continued, “We have also issued notices to all Federation members, Federation Outposts and Star Fleet vessels and facilities to be on the look out for these escapees and to facilitate their recapture.”

When asked about the President’s confidence in BR&R and specifically in Commissioner N’Vat’s ability to continue in the office, Secretary Ash stated that the Commissioner has been recalled to Earth where the Denevan will face a review board and Senate committee. The president remembers the Commissioner as a treasured friend and colleague. He has full confidence in the proceedings.

» Pirates Attack Djux IV system

StarFleet vessels, under the orders of the Federation Defense Committee interdicted pirating vessels in the Djux IV system. Star Fleet vessels detached for special service have been formed into a Task Force, according to Lieutenant Steven Coven, Department of Operational Analysis.

When asked about the Task Force, Lieutenant Coven informed this reporter that member worlds had brought concerns about increased piracy to the Chambers of the Defense Committee and the President.

Those offices, in conjunction with StarFleet put a Task Force in Space and President Turgenev directed intelligence agencies to "Get a handle on these pirates."

When asked about the battle, Captain u'Lana Pinwhistle of the J'Naii freighter Albatros said, "It was great. I thought I...we were in deep trouble. Another freighter just jumped out and then there were StarFleet vessels all over the place. There must have been four or five starships. Those raiders didn't stand a chance!!"

Lieutenant Coven declined to provide details on the Task Force, stating Operational Security. When I spoke to Manager Shim of the Djux IV repair service and repair station, he showed footage of at least four vessels engaged with the pirates. Fleet Intelligence chose to not name the vessels involved, claiming, "We're all StarFleet. We're here to serve and protect the Federation."

» Betezoid adopts USS Valiant.

For the Secretary

Fleet Secretary Jhue is pleased to announce that the Admiralty and his office have accepted an offer by the People of Betazoid to Adopt the USS Valiant.

“Since her launch, a large majority of Valiant’s crew have ties to Betazoid and she has proven herself capable through adversity in the short time she’s been back in service under Captain O’Donnaghue. They’ve rescued unique species from extinction and handled terse diplomatic situations, showing dogged determination to meet expectations of Member worlds of the Federation. As such, the people of Betazoid wish to, through the Valiant, remind everyone of the sacrifices Betazoid made during the war with the Dominion and wish to celebrate those of our people serving aboard Federation Star Ships,” said Administrator Von Gravinal.

In response, Secretary Jhue commented, "This was an easy yes for my office. Representative Yeena made the suggestion during a meeting of the Federation Home Defense Force liaisons and Betazoid was the first member nation to run with the idea. They were given the pick of the fleet and they choose Valiant. Administrator Gravinal stated that the Escort best met popular views on Betazoid: Betazoid's serving aboard StarFleet vessels ready to defend Federation member worlds."

When asked for his comment, Representative Yeena agreed with Secretary Jhue's comments and clarified. "We don't just depend on our Home Defense Forces to protect us, obviously. StarFleet is important in keeping us safe before enemies get close to our beloved worlds. Diplomacy and talking is preferred to conflict. But," the Representative paused, "Having a strong offensive presence can help aggressors take pause and even think twice. Valiant is definitely a Ship to make aggressors think twice."

Valiant is currently landed at the Port of Stems and open for public tours, giving the people of Betazoid a unique opportunity to tour a StarFleet vessel.
